Rapid rescoring is a time-sensitive credit update process that can refresh your credit scores within 24-72 hours instead of waiting for the next monthly reporting cycle. I'm Rick Jefferson, and this is a critical tool for ITIN holders who are in the middle of a mortgage application or other time-sensitive credit transaction.
How Rapid Rescoring Works
Normally, changes to your credit file (paid-off balances, removed collections, new accounts) take 30-45 days to reflect in your score because bureaus only update during monthly reporting cycles. Rapid rescoring bypasses this by having your lender submit updated documentation directly to the bureau for expedited processing.
When to Use Rapid Rescoring
- ✓You’re 5-20 points below a mortgage qualification threshold (580 for FHA, 620 for conventional)
- ✓You just paid off a collection or credit card balance
- ✓A recently removed item hasn’t updated on your report yet
- ✓You need an updated score for a rate lock before it expires
Important Limitations
- ⚠Only available through mortgage lenders — you cannot request it directly from the bureaus
- ⚠Costs $25-50 per account per bureau (your lender may absorb this cost)
- ⚠Only updates information that has already changed — it doesn’t remove negative items
- ⚠The underlying change must already be reflected in the creditor’s records
Rapid rescoring is included in our Premium plan as part of the Mortgage-Ready Program. We coordinate with your lender to ensure all recent changes are captured before your final credit pull.
Real Example
An ITIN holder client had a 617 score but needed 620 for a conventional mortgage. We paid off a $300 credit card balance (bringing utilization from 35% to 2%) and requested rapid rescoring through their lender. Score updated to 634 within 48 hours. Mortgage approved.
